missed the ball on extending invitations to teams that would have enhanced the leagues standing (and income) as a football league. Now I am beginning to think they probably did and got this response.

When OU and Texas left the Big 12 the ACC should have pounced on prime Big 12 teams and renegotiated the ACC contract AND get some Fox money in addition. But thats not all on the ACC but its member schools. Maybe if FSU et al had not been sound asleep only to wake up and then voila decide they didn't like a deal they agreed to and been cashing checks for.

Better yet the ACC leadership seeing the direction things were heading

could have been in discussions with ESPN to see what a new revenue deal with Texas and OU would have looked like then offered them before the SEC did. But the ACC waited until the luxury liner sailed then offered the tug boats still in the harbor. Could have done the same as the PAC12 was disintegrating. I mean if your going to agree to expanding coast to coast why not offer USC and Oregon eight months earlier? You can't tell me a USC, Oregon, Texas, OU, Clemson, FSU league would not have been worth SEC and B1G money.

the pac? the ACC got the top leftover pac schools. As far as Texas and OU to the ACC leaving for less money makes no sense.

The ACC leadership and the 4 NC teams have always wanted the ACC to be a basketball conference. That's why Oaklahoma and Texas or the other football schools you mention were never pursued. That's why the football conference, the SEC did pursue those two schools.
Clemson and FSU finally figured it out and finally figured out the media money followed football and the ACC would never get the football media money.

a number of us wanted in the early 80's and told the ACC to shove it when they imposed that second year of probation.
Accept the penalty, announcing that we were resigning membership immediately afterwards and applied for membership in the SEC. The handwriting had been on the wall since the early years of the conference, when Clemson and South Carolina were considered the red-headed step-children with the power centered squarely in North Carolina. The Chickens got smart and flew the coop in 1971. We should have followed suit.
Now, I pray our lawyers have entered the fray with nuclear weapons and not pea-shooters, and I hope upon hope, our boys are R.W. and A. to lock, load and launch!

People keep saying the ACC should have been proactive and gone after Texas, Oklahoma, Oregon, Washington, etc. before the SEC and Big Ten did.
The problem is, you are assuming this teams are stupid, and couldn't figure out that they had a chance of going to the SEC or Big Ten. You are also assuming those teams don't know about any of the issues in the ACC.
If you had an offer to join the ACC, would you take it then and there, or wait for the SEC or Big Ten?

None of the remainder Big 12 teams have had so much as a phone call by SEC or B1G teams and Big 12 could have very well been relegated to G5 status. What saved the Big 12 is Brent Yormark swooped in, took the PAC's TV spots and money because the PAC was so unbelievably stupid and decided to commit suicide.
Even if a Big 12 school went to the B1G, there would have been no more money than the ACC. Oregon and Washington went to the B1G on a half price discount with hopes of making it up eventually while they fly cross country to play womens volleyball.
The ACC could have picked up Texas and other prime markets and expanded its foot print killing off both the Big 12 and the PAC.

Now you know for sure it was incompetent members who cannot understand a contract and have corporate attorneys who may be just as dumb! We were just outfoxed for 10+ years by that stupid old ACC and a bunch of mickey mouse businessmen!
