Clemson Basketball No Longer has a Losing Record in the NCAA Tournament

Some of you TNetters might already have known this. But, I just noticed a stat makes me smile!

We all know that Clemson’s basketball history has not been what any of us would have hoped. And, Clemson has not been to the NCAA Tournament nearly as much as we would have liked. Small sample size or not, I still like the fact that we no longer have a losing record in the Tournament.

Clemson basketball made its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 1980. That team’s run to the Elite Eight gave Clemson a 3-1 record. Certainly, a good start for Clemson’s record in the NCAA Tournament.

The Good Guys maintained a winning record until Clemson’s First Round loss to Villanova in 2008. The next year (2009) Clemson lost First Round game to Michigan, which dropped Clemson to a losing record in NCAA Tournament play.

Clemson had maintained a losing record in the NCAA Tournament until this year’s Elite Eight run! Thanks to this team posting a 3-1 record in the Big Dance, Clemson no longer has a losing record. The Good Guys are now 14-14 in the NCAA Tournament. FWIW: That record does count the First Four win in 2011. Perhaps not everyone would agree, but the NCAA does consider the First Four games as part of the NCAA Tournament.

Almost double the amount of wins South Carolina has and far and away the most in the state. And that is including SC's final four run. Hopefully we can have some sustained success.
