I got my first bike at age 6 and lived on one for years as did all my friends. It was a constants companion for us.
At age 40 Bikes became popular in my circle. One night after the Maggie Valley race, Earl Owens said a bike would improve my running, so I bought a Nishiki racing bike the next week. I am a fan of Earl.
Later I upgraded to the new carbon fiber from Giant.
K upgraded to a bike that had different wheel sizes to adjust for being 5'.
We bought indoor mounts for them where we could train in bad weather.
I was always scared of biking as cars share the road. To race and compete, you needed to put in countless miles, could not make myself do that as I was afraid. K was not and loved it all, so I preserved.
I won my age group in a few biathlons as most bikers lacked the cardio of a runner. In the bike segment they killed me.
One day my Bride comes home and tells me she has signed us up to ride for her company 150 miles to Myrtle Beach. They were all yuppies and into fitness. I was blue collar, but they were OK as K would keep me in line. Who has a Bride who would ask that of you?
