Just popped and poured an Adrien Besson 2020 Chablis 1er Cru “Les Montmains.” Really lovely little Chablis full of bright sunny citrus, white peach, and honey, with plenty of wet flinty stone and racy acidity. Unoaked, 12.5% abv, a very pure expression of Chardonnay. I’ll probably drink this case slowly over the next 5 years. Chablis terroir is unique because of the Jurassic-era kimmeridgian limestone.

Take the photo. Edit the photo by rotating it. Rotate it all the way back around to its original position. Then go to TNet and attach the photo. It will now appear as you originally took it. I’m not a computer guy. So I have no idea why this works. But it always works for me.

Saint Cosme (pronounced comb) is a fantastic southern Rhône producer. They make one of my favorite Cote Roties. That’s a Côtes du Rhône, basically a region-wide base level appelation, the next level up will be villages-level, followed by individual AOCs. Some combination of Grenache, syrah, and Mourvèdre (GSM). You’ll get a lot of black fruits, cassis, olive, garrigue, and sometimes some smoked meat character.

What wine regions do you like that are outside of France? Cannot remember the vineyards, but I've enjoyed some high elevation Malbecs and Cab Savs from Argentina lately. I like a chewy red.

Let me preface this by saying that I almost exclusively buy and drink French wine. My cellar is probably 90% Burgundy, Rhone, Loire, Champagnes, and a couple bordeauxs (incl Sauternes).
From Italy I like Franciacorta, I like some Etna Rosso and Rosatos, Vermentino, and every now and then I have a Barolo or Barbaresco that resonates with me. I like Austrian gruners, I like dry Mosel Rieslings, I like some S African chenin blanc, some NZ sav blanc and some Aussie shiraz.
Ridge is far and away my favorite US producer, they make some beautiful zins and their Monte Bello cab is some fine, fine juice. My palate doesn’t really agree with new world and warm climate wines in general, you just get these overextracted 15% fruit and new oak bombs that I just find so inelegant and unpleasant. Like a crayon drawing, where a burgundy with about 5 years of bottle age is a Monet.

Some folk, especially these days, are anti wood. I definitely like some barrel in my red wine. I don't want it to be overpowering, but something that brings out the smoke and chocolate and vanilla (slightly).
I always say I'm more of a French wine drinker, but really I think I'm more of a Bordeaux drinker. As far as Italy goes, I steer towards Veneto and secondarily Tuscany. Not really a big fan of Piedmont, although, I imagine you are pulling in some higher end stuff than I generally drink - that could be a difference for the region.
I didn't really like New World wines when I was younger, but I like them better now. I like some of the Pinot Noir's I've had from the Northwest. I liked the Austrian whites I had in the Thermal region in Austria. Not a big white wine drinker, but theirs were more apricot and honey tastes and not as much Apple and Pear like a lot of the whites I have drank here.

I love oak, provided it’s integrated and balanced w alcohol and acid for structure. 100% new oak can be pretty brutal. Piedmont wines are such tannic monsters in their youth, I find them pretty unapproachable, but have had some really stunning ones once they’ve had time to mellow (or decant for a day). People rave about super Tuscans, esp the big names like Tig and Sassicaia, eventually I’ll see what those are all about. It’s definitely interesting how your palate and preferences change over time. I’m not drinking the same stuff I was 5 years ago, and who knows where I’ll be 5 years from now. I’m definitely really enjoying traveling and exploring wine regions, definitely the best way to get an appreciation and understanding of what they’re all about.

i didn’t really know from the taste and smell test how to describe what i liked until i met our french marketing guy. it’s the finish for me. i like it clean. this wine just sits nicely. very nice finish.

Yeah man, Saint Cosme makes great wine up and down their lineup. Try their Gigondas if you can find it, I think I have a couple bottles of that one in my stash at present.
What you’re tasting on the finish is balance. Not too much alcohol, present but integrated tannins, and the right amount of acid. When those three are in balance, the primary and secondary notes sing.

yes that describes perfectly - balance. very balanced. have to say, the french wines overall are winner winner for me. i like red wine and in my feeble brain, the french have pwned everyone. i don’t like white wine and at a conference he insisted i try this french white wine. it was remarkable. the frenchies got this art and wine thing covered.

Malbec is my jam. Our table wine is a blend from down there and it's amazeballs.
My biggest problem with french wine is I don't speak French. And I don't really like the French.

Man the #1 rule in wine is drink what you like. The best way to figure out what you like is to drink a lot and try a lot. I’m not a snob, I’d never tell someone what they like is beneath anything else or whatever I’m drinking. I’ve had mind blowing $15 bottles and poured $100 bottles down the sink. I’ve had plenty of incredible Malbecs and Chilean cabs. Everyone’s tastes and favorite bottles and styles are constantly evolving. That’s part of the fun.
One of the things I think is so special about wine is terroir, the place and people and story behind the juice in the bottle. Another is who you enjoy it with, and memorable meals and experiences. The great steak you had with that bordeaux. The raucous sex you had after too much champagne.

I'd like to go to a winery and learn what tannins are etc. All the #### yall talk about.....way over my head.
Same way with bourbon. I just find #### I like and buy it
I like the thick, earthy, kinda you can chew on em reds. My wife doesn't hence the blend and why my nicer (pricier) bottles are usually cabs

I haven't done a ton of wineries, but I have always enjoyed the times I have visited. Go on a nice day and drink some wine and listen to some music. It definitely gives you an appreciation for what it takes to get something nice into your glass.

Finally got around to uncorking this 2019 masterpiece, Kirkland Signature California Cabernet Sauvignon. Connoisseurs remark this particular vintage is a "classic," and I must agree. It possesses vibrant, juicy flavors with notes of black currant, along with broad hints of red fruit. The flavor lingers on the palete while being surrounded by a melody of spice and sweet smoke. For such a galant display, it finishes gracefully with cherry and mocha. At 13% ABV, this wine drinks like a stoic middle manager — knowing his place in life, without any need to fight for anything more, or anything less.
It is best poured into something befitting this triumph of soil, wind, and sunshine.
