Dabo comments on God

Dabo is a smart person. He knows we cannot compete with the Georgia and Alabama’s of the world in paying recruits. Very similar to before we get our family oriented MEN who think about the long term.
He is selling what we can offer. Nothing more

I would not agree that Dabo is "using" his faith to "sell" recruits in order to compete with ALA or GA. I think he lets everyone know who he is and what his program is about and those who want to be a part of that are welcome.

Clemson University IS NOT a tough sale. Recruits visit my university and can see that this is where their future lies. Dabo is a great salesman AND he has a great product to sell. Why would any young man NOT want to be a part of this? The obvious answer is money!

and informs every part of my life, including the way I coach football. I will never apologize for that or be silenced. Having said that, players of all faiths or no faith are equally welcome at Clemson. The best players who obey the rules and put in the effort will play - a player's religious beliefs are a non-factor. All are welcome and will be treated fairly.".
Mind you, that is not a Dabo quote, but that is pretty much a summary of his position and he has said as much many times before. Anybody who doesn't know this has not been paying attention. Any potential recruit who is for some reason put off by that should appreciate Dabo's honesty; they know up front where he stands and can make an informed decision. Only a sick, twisted mind would have a problem with that approach.

Dabo has said things about religion, and that the best players play regardless of their faith, and I do believe that DJ's faith, and how serious he was with it, that done more with helping him remain the starter than he his talent did!!!

Dabo does use religion to recruit. The parents love it. Why people are just figuring this out is beyond me. It’s the culture. 2 NCs and countless conference titles, I don’t care how they do it.

Does not use religion to recruit. He allows his light to shine in all situations and does not hide his identity in Christ as many do as they are intimidated by the woke crowd and progressive liberals that identify only in their own selfies.

His comments are his opinion which he is entitled to. Those who disagree are entitled to as well. The fact is Clemson has a different vibe and provides a different experience which isn't for everybody. That is a plus and not a minus. I've heard him and others say if you get them on campus Clemson sells itself with its people. That is what I love about it. we have the right coach in the right place at the right time.

I hate to break it to some of y'all but it is entirely possible to be good without god.
Dabo could easily sell families on the University's commitment to their young sons - and the development of their character and morailty without promoting his god so pervasively.

It’s important to Dabo and important to many recruits and their families.
Dabo can be outspoken about his faith, plus it attracts good players who share that faith.
It’s a win-win.

What about the good recruits (physically & morally) who don't get recruited as hard because they don't come from good, christian families ?
Mentioning is one thing - promoting is another.

Yes, but making that assumption is just asinine. You, nor I know how hard Dabo recruits a prospect, regardless over their beliefs. If anything he may want the "heathen" player even more, so he can be a positive presence in the young man's life and help the young man mature.

I recognize that I do not know all the details. But Dabo is a public coach at a state sponsored university. So I think these questions are worth asking and that there answers should be ascertained.

If he means God is morally Good, then yea that’s bogus. God isn’t a moral being because whatever God is, God isn’t a person. Morality requires persons. God is Being. Protestant American Christians make God just another being, but mature Christian’s and other religious people understand God is existence itself, not a person.

I am intrigued by your comments. Could I ask a couple of questions ?
1. What % of American christians see god as existence itself ?
2. If god is existence, then why attribute supernatural powers to it. In fact why not just substitute existence for god.

We have an NIL program and recruits know that. Look at the deal DJ got before proving anything on the field.
That’s why Dabo’s comments make no sense.
I still haven’t seen an explanation for what they mean, just people getting defensive for him.

My feelings on NIL are this. I think NIL, as it was originally intended, was to allow players to take financial advantage of their NIL. However, where the NCAA screwed up was to allow universities and boosters to be part of that process. An individual should have to put forth their own effort to make money off their brand but when you allow these large institutions and big dollar donors to become involved then it simply becomes an arms race and the professionalization of college sports is born.
I can't say for sure but I think this is what Dabo means when sometimes he says he is for it and other times seems against it. I don't think he minds the players making some extra money on their brand but to allow others to be involved is where the whole thing kind of falls apart for a variety of reasons.
None of this is going to be good for college football longer term because the big dollar institutions are going to dominate and the smaller ones are going to be left behind which is why we eventually just get consolidated down to a handful of conferences playing in their own national championship.

I agree with everything but your last statement.
I think parity will increase now because programs have more to pitch recruits than just tradition. Alabama and Ohio St aren’t the only school with rich boosters.

I just think it may be parity around a smaller subset of NCAA teams. I don't see a lot of schools that are going to have the resources to attract the talent they will need to compete at the highest level because the talent will be consolidated around the bigger programs that can afford to pay them the max.
Maybe I'm wrong and you are right but to me, it feels like we are heading the wrong way when it comes to establishing parity and broadening the tent.

I remember several years ago Dabo recruited a young man whose religious beliefs were much different than his own.Dabo had a long conference with this young mans mother and explained to her that his beliefs were different than what her son had experienced in his young life and he wanted to be sure than his mother approved before she allowed him to become a Clemson Tiger. Mom did approve because she knew Dabo would treat her son fairly and not try to change his life. I wish that I could remember who this was. I bet some of you know about this. He became a very big part of the Tiger program while he was a Clemson man. And I bet that he still is.
The point being ..... Dabo is a fair and thankful man regardless of religious beliefs.

Matthew 5:10-12
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Can y'all stop with the christian persecution complex. You guys have national holidays based on your religion - and houses of worship on every corner - and every president ever elected - etc.
Christains mistake a question or a challenge as persecution because you have been so used to getting your own way without being questioned. Well, welcome to the new world of empirical evidence and rational thinking.

I can agree with you on the first part about Christian’s and their “persecution complex”. But I would add to that it’s usually only fundamentalist southern Christian’s who project this garbage out into the world, and it doesn’t apply to all Christian’s.
Christianity has a long tradition of intellectualism and rational thinking. Modern philosophy and modern science was heavily influenced by Christianity and its conceptions of the world.
Also, science has a lot off baked in metaphysical assumptions that can’t be proved empirically.
