My initial reaction was "please no" but I like the story.

I'd be interested in what the original lyrics were.
But I maintain my "please no" if they try to incorporate it into the game itself. This is not the game to be learning new (old) songs.
Oh, and we sure do not care for the "s" in "always," do we?

My first year in the band was 2004, and we were dusting this off periodically even then.

We played Tiger Rah for field goals. It wasn't overly popular to replace tiger rag, and that plan was eventually retired.

I'm glad they finally got around to explaining what this is. It would have been nice to do that before randomly adding it to the pregame band playlist at the Georgia game, but maybe more people will participate in Cadence Count at the end of the song now.

The band played it 5-6 years ago, and even did on round of Tiger Rah before one of Tiger Rag after field goals. They have also been playing this year at the end of their pregame performance.
I'm glad to see the band grow and get a better sound. I've been around long enough to remember Tiger Band as a joke. However, this song needs to go back into the archive from whence it came. There is a reason that is Clemson's FORMER fight song.

Agreed. Plus, it sucked compared to "Clemson All Hail"

Tiger Rah may have been the former fight song, but it's a weak march to begin with and isn't much fun to hear or play.
At the same time it was introduced in 2004, it was joined by another song called "Clemson All Hail":
Clemson, all hail to thee Our alma mater proud and true We pledge our love to you And through the years will never fail So give a cheer for our Tiger team They'll push the ball right through the line And they will win (FIGHT!) For (FIGHT!) Our alma mater Onward to Victory (FIGHT! FIGHT!)
The original recording was played three times, and with the center series being sung by 90% of the band. It was a pretty good tune and MUCH more exciting than Tiger Rah. Unfortunately, it didn't have the distinction of being a former fight song so it was never elevated to the same pedestal.
Unfortunately, no matter which way you slice it, both of these songs are outdated marches and aside from being a good precursor to "Tiger Rag" (in addition to "Orange Bowl March") there's just not a place for them anymore.

Or at least that's what we used to call it back in the day. They've tried to play that for what seems like ten years now. People just don't get into it.

I have a hard time figuring out when the lyrics would come in and with what cadence they would be in.

Oct 17, 2013, 10:21 PM

Hey, Hey, Ho, Ho ...come on Tigers let's go! It's short, sweet, melodic and can be repeated ad nauseum kinda like fsu's war chant. You don't even need the band. It could get going after the Tigers run down the hill and the band is headed up into the stands. I remember how cool it sounded in the 60's as a kid.

Give It a Chance
Oct 18, 2013, 3:11 PM

Could you imagine if the entire stadium did the cadence count at the same time? It would be VERY intimidating. Not to mention how awesome the tiger paw looks when the band forms it. Why bash on something and not even give it a chance?

Tiger Rah IS Clemson's old fight song.
Oct 18, 2013, 6:48 PM
|
|
It started out with Dixie, then that changed to Tiger Rah, and then that transformed into Tiger Rag. Playing this is just a tribute to a very old part of Clemson's history.
