I'm still riding the ole Husqvarna "garden tractor".
Zero turn would be life changing, right?
I don't have a very large budget and I don't need something to last 20 years so I was kind of thinking about a Cub Cadet 54 incher because cheap and decent reviews. Whatcha think? Or it doesn't matter what you think b/c I'm probably just going to do that??

Neighbor has Cub Cadet. He likes it I think an he is a little particular. My old Craftsman with Kolher 15.5 hp just won't die. So, I keep sharpening blades an changing oil occasionally and run the crap out of it.

Mahfugga was a tank, worked great for years cutting 5 acres weekly. I think my brother in Irmo got it, it would take me more time to get it out than to cut my current yard with that thing.

But there’s a lot of different options these days. If over 3-5 acres, get a higher end residential zero turn mower …

Worked great. Super reliable, no issues whatsoever apart from things like new battery and other maintenance stuff (filters, blades, etc.). Sold it because moved to smaller yard.
Now rocking a honda self propelled mower.
Zeroturns are GAME CHANGERS for big lots, zipping around trees, etc. Would recommend.

I had a Murray 48" riding mower I had for about 12 years.

I bought it from Wal Mart for $500, never changed the oil on it and put blades on it once. I put a battery in it 2-3x, then another one died and I just started jumping it off my car to get it started. I put a gas valve on it because I think the carb float was shot because it kept leaking gas, and then when I moved for the 3rd time I sold it for $300.
Best $200 I ever spent.

I had a Cub Cadet garden tractor GT2554 years ago that was pretty good.

eventually mower deck got rusted out.
My yard has too many steep spots for a zero turn unless I get a stout commercial one. So I got a used 2 yr old JD X758. 4WD Diesel. Hydraulic snow blade, got the kit for adding a 3 pt hitch but not installed yet. Not as good as a compact tractor, but mostly mowing anyway. Which it does great.

How long does it take you to mow now?

On the two times I've had somebody to cut my lawn, lot is .04 acres so take away the house and metal building footprint, it has taken them half an hour.
Do your quick math that I know you love and figure out if your time savings are worth it. Maybe a 0 turn is also way more fun so factor that in if you will. You can get Husqvarna riders and 0 turns but Lowes won't have new ones.
If you do look at Husqvarna mowers text me a picture of the plate on the engine that has the engine family name on it and I can tell you how old it is and if you should really haggle.

Basic front and back is 45 mins, but there's more I let go a few weeks

and cut with the tractor later. Trimming off 10-15 mins from the basic would be incredible.
Max speed current is 5.2 Zero max speed is 7.0 (35% faster)
Current cut is 46 Zero cut is 54 (17% more)
So it would probably cut it from 45 mins to 30 mins. Then I would be tempted to cut more and go back to 45 mins but it would look better, right?

I'd have to see because I don't know how much you leave uncut.

Now what I'd do in an ideal, money is no object scenario is either plant a lot of trees where you don't like to mow and let the shade sort it out OR have some landscaping barrier and allow the part you don't like to mow to become an intentional meadow.
