For the name image and likeness, but what I am opposed to, is the transfer portal. Now I understand there are good reasons to transfer, but just because someone gave you more money isn't one. Make the NLI a binding contract, so if they want to transfer they must either be released, or compensate the school for the money spent on their tuition, room and board, meals, training, etc. If they want to be big boys making big boy dollars, they should have to deal with the negative side of it as well. Or simply make it to where they have to sit out a year. That would solve 90% of the problems with college sports. It's not them getting paid for their NIL, it's the transfer portal.

where everyone gets 5 years to play 4. If you want to transfer, that's fine, but EVERYONE regardless of circumstances, is required to sit out a year before being eligible to play. That one change alone would fix a lot of the nonsense that is now occurring.

( binding contracts are a safety net that protects them )
The more you get paid, the more your job is on the line.

The school that loses the developed player should be compensated by the new receiving school. If Texas is going to recruit off another team's roster, then, Texas should pay the losing school at least a million per lineman and 5 million per skilled player. They should also be forced to transfer a player of choice to the new school. This would slow it down a bit.

Make them pay for their scholarship if they go into portal...most didn't come for scholarship anyway...If DJ had to pay for his schooling he would not be moving like a bowel!

Let me guess...you are a attorney for the gambling syndicate...this makes paying them off a given...most of these kids would sell their mother for $5...tax included! Makes the blacksocks look like slackers!

As a former student-athlete...

I have no objection to student-athletes benefitting financially from their names, likenesses, and images. That said, I am also a firm believer that there needs to be some degree of governance and control over both NIL and the transfer portal to minimize if not eliminate the inevitable albeit unintended lawlessness and misconduct that has resulted since the current system has been effectively left unregulated and unsupervised.

Players have always been compensated. It's called a scholarship! Money will destroy college football.
