Inside info on the female announcer of our game
Mar 18, 2018, 7:48 PM
|

Her name is Debbie Antonelli. We are friends with her family. They used to live right down the road from us. They still live in Mt Pleasant. They have a son, Frankie, who is a highly functional down's syndrome child and is an equipment manager for The Clemson Girls basketball team. She is an outstanding coach and gives Nike clinics around the country in the off season. I want her to be our next coach of our Lady Tigers. She knows her stuff. She announces games for Fox, CBS and ESPN.

She only conducts Nike Clinics. Not a full time coach. She played at NC State many years ago,

I'm confident that Debbie really appreciates the "many years ago" comment.

Well, at least give you credit for being upfront about it.
I prefer to judge folks based on their competence, not their gender.

I don’t know why female announcers have low voice

the female sideline reporters generally dont. For me, it’s the tone, not the fact that’s she is female. It sounds forced, even if it’s not. There are male announcers that I don’t like. It took me a long time to tolerate #### Vitale.

There are male and female announcers I don’t like too. But I don’t dislike all of either gender.

I am a hardline conservative, so everyone knows that we are sexist (sarcasm), and even I found that comment in bad taste.

It's a feeling that I have often analyzed on myself why I feel this way about female commentators in a male sporting event, and I think it is just something that takes a little getting used to. While I know they know far more than me about sports to be in that position, I think the reason it is a letdown is obviously none of them are high profile commentators (and can't be until they get to take the first steps, like they are doing, to get there in men's sports), so it feels like our game isn't getting the respect I'd like it to - I feel the same way when I notice the male commentators are ones I've never heard of.
Similarly, I don't enjoy watching women's sports, high school sports, or other people's children playing sports, and I think it has a lot to do with the perception I have that I am better or can at least compete at their level. I also completely concede that getting out there and trying would probably be a big wake up call and put me in my place. I just feel that if I am going to pay with money and/or my time to watch sports for entertainment, I want to feel like the athletes are performing at a level that I could never be at.
Before anyone jumps to call me sexist or discriminatory, how many women are coaching men's college sports and how many women at the professional level are getting paid what men are or bringing in the revenue that men do? I'm obviously not the only one that feels this way. I hope that five years from now, I, along with everyone else, won't even notice whether it's a man or woman calling our games.

Thanks for the background. She seems to be doing a good job to me... Wish people would just stop with the complaints about the female announcers. Might as well get used to them

As a senior at Wando high school a few years ago Frankie sang in the talent show. He sang a Darius Rucker song. During his performance Darius surprised Frankie and came on stage and sang the song with him.

Pretty sure she isn't qualified to be the leader of our womens program. One bad hire could damage our stranglehold we have on the ACC #13 seed every year.

She and whatsisname worked awfully hard to try to make it seem like Auburn had a glimmer of hope. "If Auburn can get their guards on track..." "Auburn is the top scoring offense in the SEC", "Auburn had a terrific regular season winning the SEC title", etc. Kudos for the effort.
