another transfer to Brad Brownell...

Was a good prospect in HS, but I still say this will eventually start catching up to his program bringing players with baggage from other programs. When do better facilities start helping out with good HS receuits.

A 19 year old guy with 45 followers on Twitter seems like a reputable source for breaking news on basketball transfers.

giggles typically are not good character guys.
Lotta smoke with this guy, like there was with the Minnies guy that Coach Brownell wanted from Robert Morris. D Rad had to put the kibosh on that one.

Even if Coach Brownell wanted him, I don't think DRad would allow it.

"So what’s next for Elijah Minnie? Currently, Minnie already has two solid offers from Nevada and Clemson, which he has official visits set up. Boston College, Tennessee and the Florida Gators have expressed interest, but no offers have been made from those three teams."
“I talk to Clemson and Nevada almost every day,” Minnie said.

Has it ever occurred to some posters that CBB just might have a better idea of his needs than a mere fan. College transfers are becoming a regular avenue to locate and gain solid talent.
The player in question is transferring due to his Mother's health. Give the negativity a break. If Clemson decides to seek his transfer I will see it as a positive.
Go Tigers!

hardship transfer waivers are hard to get but some football guy got one once to be near his mom because she had a broken arm. So he may get it.

He's had three episodes of trouble.

1. Accepting improper benefits. 2. Assault in an on campus attack on three individuals. 3. Possession of drug paraphernalia.
Do you think those are any indication of his judgement?

Accepting improper benefits. He was with other athletes, did he know they were improper? Ignorance or intent to defraud?
Yep, he had a bong, or a pipe, or papers or something. Yep, he got in a fight.
Good judgment, no. But neither you nor I have spoken with him, Brownell has. Apparently Brownell's track record of zero issues like this and his judgment don't matter. If Brad is OK with him, given his track record of such matters, why wouldn't we be?
Not like he robbed a bank as a 19 year old

He was being recruited by Richie Riley and headed to Clemson for a visit and looking good to go to Clemson A week later, we were no longer recruiting him. DRAD put the kibosh on it?
It happens.

Transfers are very common in BBall now
Jun 24, 2016, 9:16 AM
|

I'd hate to be a basketball coach now. These prospects are always the best on their team growing up, and if they aren't they seek out a new club/AAU team to be the best on. They can't handle being role players because they've never had to be.
If Dabo starts taking a ton of transfers, I'll worry. But for every basketball team not named Kentucky, Kansas and Duke where they take 5 McDs All Americans for 1 year and then reload the next, transfers are a standard part of roster management.

Yes they are. We now have 7 of 13 scholarship players that

are transfers. They are the modern day version of building a team through JUCO players similar to what Cliff Ellis used to do, though probably on a greater scale.

Each have at least two years of eligibility, and all but Thomas will have had to sit out a year giving them 3-4 with the team.
Hard to argue the approach hasn't increased our talent level, so I'm not sure exactly what the issue is

I think we've already seen that Avry Holmes was a talent upgrade.
God forbid a kid change and improve upon mistakes. CBB hasn't brought in one single player with character issues, I doubt he'll start now.

Unless Avry improves a bit next year, I don't see that as a talent upgrade. Makes more threes because he shoots more, but doesn't have the athleticism, strength, defensive ability, or ability to finish around the rim like Rod Hall. I remember Brownell saying he was a faster player than Rod before last season, but that turned out not to be the case. Slower and made some bad decisions with games on the line.

Just giving you the facts bruh. The truth will set you free.

Since you seem unconvinced, here are the stats from each player.
Rod Hall
MIN FGM-FGA FG% 3PM-3PA 3P% FTM-FTA FT% REB AST BLK STL PF TO PTS 34.2 3.0-7.3 .405 0.6-1.9 .317 2.6-3.5 .757 2.3 3.4 0.2 0.9 1.8 2.1 9.2
Avry Holmes
MIN FGM-FGA FG% 3PM-3PA 3P% FTM-FTA FT% REB AST BLK STL PF TO PTS 30.9 2.9-7.8 .374 1.6-4.8 .333 2.5-3.5 .725 2.8 2.6 0.0 1.1 1.8 1.3 10.0
So, Avry averaged less than a point per game more than Rod by shooting 3 more threes per game and making one more per game. (shoots more threes, but fewer twos because he can't finish around rim). Pretty much a carbon copy of Rod Hall from an offensive production standpoint. Without question, Rod was a better defensive player, which Coach Brownell alluded to during the season.

We get players that are more physically mature with talent. Most amazing college players stay 3 years max anyway. I think CBB is on to something. I love what he is doing now. I see some good years ahead of us.

It's not my preferred method, but I'm beginning to buy into it a little bit. If these transfers can make us a winning program and play in the tournament and get us on some attention to attract guys straight Out of HS I guess I have to go with it.

From what I read these are the issues
Jun 24, 2016, 10:18 AM
|
|
1) got caught with a bong in his room when where he lives was searched for something he didn't do
2) cited but not charged for an incident in a club
3) did what the school provided for him and other athletes that the school later recognized was an improper benefit and as a result missed games as a freshman
Granted, not ideal. But not exactly a master criminal. Since Brad has has zero issues with players in his tenure, if they deem him as worthy of a scholarship offer, I see no reason to question that judgment

That same source tweeted 4 hours later that he's also considering a couple other schools. Makes no sense if he committed, so the source is extremely unreliable. We'll find out soon enough.
