Anybody notice TN response to NCAA?

Just another shot across the bow and a signal that college football is going to break away from current NCAA governance.
TN response is this:
We didn't do anything wrong. We didn't fly him to Knoxville on a recruiting trip. He signed with a company in California, which is legal to do, and that company flew him to Knoxville. That company agreed to pay him X amount of dollars regardless of who he signed with. We did not give the company any money to influence them to influence him to sign with Tennessee.
And, in addition, when he flew into to Knoxville, what he did was legal according to your vague and innocuous rules. Now, you have changed the rules and are telling us we should have anticipated you would change the rules and make the changes retroactive. It's like you changed the speed limit from 55 to 35 on a highway and are now giving me a ticket for going 50 when the speed limit was 55 because it is now 35.

The problem seems to be that many NIL employers are also classified as boosters for the university. Just as a university is prohibited from giving extra benefits, boosters are restricted too.

These TN collective guys WERE boosters down to the letter of the definition. They have been quoted all along saying their only goal was to get UT to the top of the NIL hill. So these boosters flew this Cali QB to Knoxville so he could go to sporting events with the head fb coach. There was absolutely no ambiguity to that rule with NCAA either. In an atmosphere where “cheating” is essentially legal, TN still found a way to break NCAA rules.

Boosters did not fly Nico to Tennessee. The entity he signed with flew him.

The “entity” run by three UT alums (i.e., boosters) with a link to the “Join The Volunteer Club” on their website?

Virtually every NIL collective is made up of boosters.

This is a backdoor attempt by the NCAA to control NIL.
The problem is ANYTHING that interferes with the athletes NIL rights is illegal. Federal law wins out over NCAA rules every time.
So says the Supreme Court, 9-0.
This is how the NCAA puts the final nails in their own coffin.

I’m not sure ncaa rules limiting booster involvement interferes with NIL. If somebodies name image and likeness as a high school prospect is worth 8 million then I’m sure this person could find other means of compensation without any difficulty.
Problem is their name image and likeness is not in reality valued at 8 million. Their physical skills to Tennessee is valued at this number to improve the quality of said football team.

The NCAA is trying to enforce a rule that didn't exist when the alleged Tennessee violations took place.
And...those rules are illegal. They are a violation of the Interstate Commerce Act, the law that caused the NCAA the 9-0 loss in the supreme Court.
The federal courts govern this now, whether the NCAA lines it or not.

With the cfp not punishing Michigan this year why would anyone care what kind of punishment the ncaa gave? Just do whatever you want, be one of the best teams, get in the playoff

Brett, FSU shouldn't have buckled.

If FSU and UF fought the NCAA like UT and the states of Tennessee and Virginia are doing, they would back down at light speed.
This is quickly turning into a case of, to quote Benjamin Franklin, "Either we hang together or we hang desperately".

I think it is more a case of two points.

1. Choose your battles wisely. FSU is already fighting a major battle. They don't need to be fighting a 2 front war.
2. (And, I think this is the major reason.) FSU is winning the PR war on the battle against the ACC. Nationally, FSU is considered a victim of the incompetent and corrupt administration of the ACC by most people across America who are not tied in closely to FSU or ACC. The possibility exists that if FSU had fought the NIL battle with the NCAA the PR might have turned against them as being rogue renegades.

Bigger issues here...

FSU's fight with the ACC is obviously a big deal...to the ACC and it's members.
However...NIL is a big deal to every FBS school. With the NCAA going after UF fur a kid that never played for them and for Tennessee for ex post facto enforcement of a rune that didn't exist then and is illegal now, it's not a fight the football programs can afford to lose.
I don't think the NCAA thing vs Tennessee is anything but a born loser for the the NCAA, but every university needs to dogpile the lawsuits to make sure.
A unified front, even with rivals will go a long way to win the PR battle and even more importantly, to win in court.
I understand why FSU negotiated the deal and tfeceacruf
