The OL has been a mess for the last couple of years and it’s apparently not going to improve anytime soon. What or who is the problem? I know Elliott’s offense was bad & Streeter’s was worse— can’t put all the blame on DJU for having to run for his life. (FWIW, I thought J-McF was way overrated). I’m very confident that the new version of offense will be much more exciting, but will CK be able to get the ball to the WR’s under duress? Will Shipley & Mafah have space to run it? IF the Tigers can’t get the OL recruits over the Chicks, it seems like something is wrong and hopefully they will fix it SOON!

Exactly DW. And, correct me if I am wrong, but T. Austin just took over last season, no?
As bad as DJU seemed to play and teams stacking the box on us; because they knew that's mostly what we had - we still ran the ball pretty well.
And, a new offensive philosophy that gets the ball out of the QB's hands quickly will help the OL tremendously.
Not worried about the OL production at all. Especially because Thomas Austin is only going to grow in the role and get better! Having high-quality OL recruits coming in won't hurt as you pointed out as well!

We were fifth in redzone offense last year. 12th in average line yards.19th in opportunity rate, 7th in power success rate. Fifth in stuff rate. 61st in sack rate. Everything except sack rate was a massive improvement over the 2021 offensive line. The improvement in our offensive line is the main reason we went 11-3 and won our conference.

The sack rate probably improves w/ Klubnick’s mobility.

If our season ended after the ACC title game, the media would be ecstatic for our 2023 season prospects.
Cade Klubnick would be a Heisman leader and our offense would be projected as unstoppable.
But our success put us in the Orange Bowl against a quality opponent instead of the Cheezits Bowl or whatever and we laid an egg.
Now we have to start 2023 strong and get things back on track.
The season simply cannot begin soon enough.
Spot the ball. Go Tigers!!!

I think he needs 3 years before you can tell
He’s been on staff for a year, and it’s not like he was taking over the most talented group
I thought the OLine improved a lot last year, especially run blocking
Now, all that said…. We need to be ready to pull the trigger on a couple of proven OL guys in the portal.
I think OL is the best position to target in the portal and there are a lot of good ones at smaller / lower profile schools because it’s a hard position to evaluate coming out of highschool

First of all, our record is pretty dadgum good. A game like our game at Notre Dame was a 1 off where that night we were just mismatched physically. We won the ACC last year, played in a New Year's Six Bowl and finished 10-3 so I don't understand how anyone could be playing the blame game.
As far as losing recruits to South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee or any other school, there is no chance that we will ever get every recruit we want, nobody does. Don't cry over the kids we don't get, celebrate who we do get and trust Dabo and his coaches to teach them and get the best out of them.

#100, so I don't know why you are arguing as if I did. The only claim I made was that our offense took a step forward under Streeter and was much more productive - and it was. It's not my fault if you can't handle facts.

If your point is that our offense still wasn't good enough, or even good at all, under Streeter, and that we needed to make a change, then I agree. All I did was state a simple fact in response to another post. So I don't know what you're going on about.

That's a little misleading on the rankings. Linthicum was a 3* , some of the others you listed may have had a 4* with one rating service but not consensus. A lot of our 4*s are low 4s. We have some good oline recruits and it is getting better... Hopefully. But to say we're 2 deep with 4 abd 5 star is misleading. We have 1 5* that hasn't developed in 2 years.

I don't know how it's misleading - it's just facts. Rivals ranked Linthicum as the best HS center in the nation; ESPN had him ranked as the 4th best, 247 8th. He was a high 4-star Rivals and ESPN. He was invited to play in the Under Armour All-America game. Besides, if a player is rated a 4-star by only one of the services, or if they are a "low 4-star", it's not misleading at all to say they are a 4-Star, because they are, in fact, a 4-star.
I am not claiming that we have a tremendous O-line. I am not claiming that some have not developed as we'd hoped. I am not claiming that we have not had some problems with our O-line in recent years. The only claim I made, is that we have 11 O-linemen that were 4 or 5-stars coming out of high school - that's simply a fact, and is not intended to mislead in any way. I think it's a sign that we have recruited pretty well at O-line, cvertainly not as bad as many seem to think.

I think a lot of OL prospects are following schools that can get a lot more NIL money and not Thomas Austin. Give him another year before writing him off. Recruits love him too. It’s NIL that is hurting us.

Bingo. In fact, there’s reason to believe other schools are negatively recruiting Clemson based on some players staying another season but not getting re-upped for another NIL contract. Clemson has alot of work to do to keep NIL from hurting us on the recruiting trail.

Even with teams stacking the box we ran the ball well. We ran the ball down SC’s throat and they had no answer. Why we got away from it baffles me. Coaches handed SC that win but that loss wasn’t on the OL. We also outgained TN in spite of the lopsided score. Again I can’t pin that one on the OL if you’re moving the ball. I think the OL is a strength moving forward. I’m excited to see what a new scheme will do for everyone on the offense.

Yep made as much sense as Bowden cutting off Merriweather a few years back. I’m no football genius by any stretch but common sense I do have. If your QB can’t complete 10 passes and they cannot stop the run why do you start relying on your weakness. Still pisses me off.

Lol dude had 1 year at Clemson and produced an OL that was able to open up holes for rbs vs stacked boxes bc no one was scared of the QB. I dont think many of you really understand what a good OL looks like. OL is the easy target for people and the lazy members of media to go after. Multiple sacks last year were on DJ holding the ball there were times where he held the ball for over 5 seconds and there was no holding call, this isnt madden plays should very seldom last longer than 5 seconds.

"Offensive line is a developmental position, both physically and technically. Rarely do future first-round picks at the position have ready-made size, particularly as high school underclassmen. They tend to be big-framed athletes who gradually and naturally add strength and mass late in their high school careers and early in college".
Looking at the starters and their backups - we are solid. I had a Clemson Alum and big-time supporter tell me the same thing IRL at work about the OL. I simply told him to go and look up the starter's star rankings and then go look up their backup's star ratings.
The narrative is outdated and tired and we are not in good shape on the OL. Alabama and Georgia "do not get every recruit they offer" and between those two they have been dominant lately. People need to stop hitting the panic button.
DJU absolutely hindered the CU offense the last two years. I think the offensive philosophy hindered the offense the last two years as well; it pains me to say. The tempo still works if you use it. When we were playing a bit faster; the defense had to stay in basic-base defense. That allowed for confusion to happen and for athletes o just be athletes. I think; we slowed it down and became predictable because everybody studied Clemson after dominating Bama. And, that's all that happened.
Hopefully, we are a lot harder to defend this year and can get back to lighting up the scoreboard.

How much can you legitimately claim the "OL is a mess" with what we had a QB for the past two seasons??
Do you pay attention to recruiting even a little bit??? TA has commits form 4-5 star guys in 2024/5.
Please, take two weeks off then quit. This isn't for you.
