Just Wondering Why NIL and the Portal

Have destroyed college sports. Is it because you believe players shouldn’t be paid or players shouldn’t be free to transfer to wherever and whenever they want. Keep hearing college football is destroyed but next year and years after Clemson will trot out a team and people will be there to cheer them on. And by the way if they win another championship it will count just as much as the others.

Listen to what Brian Kelly had to say about NIL AND TRANSFER PORTAL. I am not a fan of him, but he is about the 1st coach that has made sense of this and has a path through it, if someone will listen.

There certainly is the dark side of it but there is a really big upside I believe that gets ignored. Prior to NIL out of the closet there absolutely was NIL in the closet also know as the booster bagmen. Very prevalent in the SEC. Bama and Saban had the “every player gets a Dodge Charger” incentive. Now everyone can do it. It spreads the talent out. Harder to stockpile talent = more parity = better games.

I agree with closet vs out of the closet argument. Howver, I dont believe its helping to spread the talent around. Lets face it, the teams with the most productive NIL programs are the teams that were already set up for success. Texas, Bama, UGA, oh St are still gettig the pick of the litter. Look at where kids are transferring from, and where they are transferring to. They are transferring to thise schools with the most to offer in both money and championship opportunities. If you are a good QB at Wash St, you dont stay at Wash St, you ttansfer to FSU. If you dont make the starting 11 at Bama, you transfer to UGA. If anything NIL has helped to comsolidate the elite schools from the second tier. A program like Clemson, that values development, is quickly becoming a thing of the past.

And that’s the darker side I mentioned. The blue bloods are still recruiting HS kids like bluebloods. But not so much with portal recruiting. Check out the transfer portal recruiting rankings. Not exactly dominated by bluebloods. The numbers the schools are losing supports your comment about development. I think Dabo has a brilliant plan to recruit well, develop and use NIL for retention. I believe we will see it pay dividends eventually.

Kids want the money but still want playing time too. Theoretically it will get harder to stockpile 4 and 5 stars 3 deep in the depth chart for bluebloods. Time will tell.

One thing I meant to mention. In the link I posted look at the number of 4 stars going out vs coming in with these non blueblood programs. You’ll see lots of 4 stars are headed to Louisville (7 in vs 0 out) and other teams. I could be wrong but it sure looks to me like the talent is being spread out. I could be wrong.

In the world with no regulations related to paying players. They all learned that it can’t be a totally open market or there will only be a very few who can afford to compete. Clemson, and most others, can’t compete unless there are rules and regulations to make it not only who has the most money. Let’s start with NFL rules and everybody can compete based on many things, not just money.

Have you ever paid the total cost of a child going to a major university...not Harvard or Stanford! I paid for 2...every cent and it is substantial...not with special meal plans, or unlimited tutoring or preferential class registeration...most of these kids really don't give a hoot about a college education and really don't belong in college...NIL and the portal is designed for them and their promoters...MO money, don't like pt, transfer for MO money and more pt...they have no college loyalty or any other kind...look at FSU...Orange Bowl laughing stock of CFB..no more student athletes! Can't be fixed probably need to die a natural death!

Actually, the number of people "trotting out to cheer them on" is dwindling year by year. That applies for every team in the nation.
Continue on with whatever other bs you are talking about
