I like this article because there isn’t any sugarcoated fluff. Pretty much spells it out in black and white the struggles from last season and what needs to occur this season to be successful. Well done.

Agreed but I'm not convinced it's all but guaranteed the Offense will be a lot better, but I sure hope so.

Agree. Not saying it is guaranteed to be A LOT better, but it is darn near 100% that it'll be at least a little better. A lot better depends on QB/WR play which is more TBD.

But i think you’re over compensating for the orange tinted glasses a bit. I’m going to go ahead and guarantee you that the offense is a lot better than last year. There’s really nowhere personnel won’t be improved considerably, which is gonna create a sort of multiplier effect/positive feedback loop situation. I have average margin of victory at 11.4 for 2021. Let’s say 21+ in 2022. That’d qualify as a lot better, yeah?

Looking at the 2021 Offensive Outlook Tnet article is a bit depressing, though. Just lets you know that we have no idea what's going to happen

Why no mention of Dacari Collins?

He’s healthy as far as you know and he made some plays last year

Excellent point. I also feel like he’s the best blocking WR on the roster and helps the run game. Never mind that great catch radius.

I wish Ryan Linthicum was farther along at Center. If he was the Tigers would be in pretty good shape at right guard and tackle.
Not sure what to think about a skinny downed playbook. I hope this is more about matching the plays to the strengths on offense. I do have concern that this could make the offense more predictable if play execution is still a problem like much of last year. Hopefully, after the first month, Streeter is more confident to expand the play calls.

This and people were already saying our playbook was too simple, now it's simpler?

They're adding more post-snap variation (i.e., options on routes based on coverage) so I would say it is slimmer and not necessarily simpler.

Then again if you give WRs options on routes it makes it seem like you have a bigger playbook. Just find green spaces and settle down there instead of continuing to run right at DBs and cover yourself just because that’s the route the play called for.

Yards per play means nothing, wins mean everything. Until I see an offense that truly features a running game, I am not convinced that our backs are all that. Until we can win the ACC, talk about a National Championship is out of the question. If our OL can become dominant and we can control the clock and get yards on the ground when we need them, we will have a chance to get to Charlotte and another ACC Championship. First things first, one game at a time.

Well said. I think coming out this year and establishing a run first offense with RB screens and short passes to TEs would go a long way in helping confidence and controlling the game. Would love to see us play a ball control game instead of relying on quick scores. Doing that opens up the deep ball opportunity. Just hope DJ has developed a little more touch on those short passes. He can throw the ball a mile but It seems the short pass is where he needed the most work. Go Tigers! Spot the dang ball!!

Elite teams do not play ball control. Look at the last several National Champions. Even UGA was a quick strike offense with their 5'7" QB

You're not convinced our backs are all that? Every team we played knew we couldn't pass and the offensive line was a weak link. Despite that the trio of backs showed out and was the reason we were able to muster enough points to win games.

5.2 YPC for the 3 backs last year. Good but not great. Easily the least productive RB group we've had since 2016 when it was Gallman and pretty much no one else.

tigerrag86 thanks for reading the part our opponents knew we couldn’t pass and the O-line was subpar. You just proved you’re dumber than ####.

Yards per play are more predictive, but yes, nothing matters except wins. Nobody is going to look at an 8-4 Clemson team and say, they actually won less games but their yards per play went up so its fine.

Last year the tackles did a pretty good job. My main concern is the guards and center. If Tate improves and If Parks goes to right guard that should make things better. Putnam at center really worries me. He got pushed around last year, maybe he's really worked hard and will have a great year. This line will be better, we will find out how much better.

What % of OLinemen would you say have measurably improved in the last 5 years? I would say <50% of our OL have improved YoY. I mean, even Hyatt peaked as a Freshman.
We've got to stop assuming that OL just automatically get better every year because they are 1 year older. That just hasn't been the case at Clemson

If you can touch it you can catch it if you want it bad enough. If you are going to give a half way effort then please beg the coach to keep you on the bench.

I'm excited to see this offense take the field. I think the difference will be night and day assuming we avoid the injury bug. I think the OL has already responded to the challenges they face and will only get better with each game. By the time we get to the meat of our schedule they will have gelled into a formidable unit. Mind you we don't need to shock the nation offensively to be a contender. We will rightly assume our place in the upper mid-tier of the ACC offensively. I'll even go as for as to say they could be special if all the pieces come together. It's not as far-fetched as some would have you believe. There is literally talent all over the field.
