Tony Elliott at Virginia

Looks like Tony Elliott is going to have to walk a fine line between being a Christian and being Woke over there at UVA. There is an article out on the ESPN website about him and it seems like there is a very strong 'Progressive' conformity attitude in the athletic department and the university in general (I know, 'oh the shock of it all!'). I hope he does well, but he will have to thread the needle on this, I believe, or he won't be long for old Virginny.
Still, it is a good read. Sorry, I tried to link the article, but I am old, so... :0)

The woke scourge is strong at UVA. Unfortunately there is no mask or vaccine available which will protect against its destruction.

probably the Wokest of them all. They love their status as a "public Ivy" and are super Woke. And don't get me started on what they are doing across the street at Monticello. My daughter is a senior and UVA is #2 on her wish list of schools. On EVERY college tour these days there is a Woke talk and they go to great pains to acknowledge the enslaved people who built or worked at the college/university. TBF, UVA does have one of the better memorials to the enslaved people. But overall, I think TE will be fine for now.

then it won't be an issue.
This is assuming that he will be proud of his beliefs without forcing them on others. As we know, there will be a greater degree of scrutiny since UVA is a public school.

his strong beliefs would be under much greater scrutiny and criticism by Clemson fans.
His success grants him the freedom to express himself honestly without having to worry about negative reaction.
He doesn’t care about negative criticism, because he’s sincere and his sincerity is contagious.
And if we look at comments by many of his best recruits, his faith-based culture is a major reason why they want to play for Clemson and why parents are so thrilled to leave their sons at Clemson under Dabo’s watch.
Can Tony Elliott enjoy this same environment at UVA. Can Brent Venables make it work at Oklahoma?
Time will tell ... but, mostly winning will be the deciding factor.

we had under Tommy Bowden.
Can you provide a link to them?
But to your point (and to mine) we got lots of really good players during Bowdens tenure because of the culture. But, all those good players still provided mediocre results on the field.
That was the problem with Tommy Bowden. He didn’t win enough. If he had, he’d still be head coach at Clemson.

Dabo’s faith-based culture only because he wins and wins a lot. Their opinion just gets squashed on TNet because Dabo is winning.
A coach has to win big in order to be able to express the sort of philosophy and world view that Dabo espouses.
A loser gets very little latitude.
Fortunately for Dabo, his sincere beliefs have also provided a winning formula for attracting and holding on to the right coaches and the best players.

Lest we forget that Jesus made a whip out of cords and ran out all the people selling livestock and scattered the money changers coins and turned over their tables. He told them to clear out and respect his Father's House!!

Coach Elliott secured a lot of goodwill in Charlottesville by hiring Chris Slade, former UVA All-American as DE's coach. Slade left Pace Academy in Atlanta where he had been head coach for 8 years or so and won a state championship in 2015.

Can you copy and paste the URL (hyperlink not necessary) so we can see what is being done at UVA that is in conflict with the teachings of Jesus?

I’ll be completely honest on this……It’s extremely rare for me to take advice from people that are 35-40 years younger than me. I trust my extra 4 decades of experience over what they’ve read in the last 5 years.

You can be a Christian and support equal rights for everyone and loving thy neighbor even if you don’t agree with them politically. It’s actually a large part of being Christian. That is of course if you’re the kind of Christian that follows the teachings of the Bible.

Like all states, Virginia has its problems. Fortunately, the bad things that catch the headlines are not representative of most of the state. Events like this one in Alexandria, and others in Loudoun County played a role in the Dems losing seats in the state legislature and governor in 2021.
