"Sensitive" timing to me means this guy is still coaching for some sort of Championship, somewhere.
"Big Splash Hire" means that Championship is in a well known conference. Or, close to a big beach?
Eric Wolford's name has been mentioned in at least one post. He is making $925,000 at Bama. Those kinds of salaries are where the huge discrepancy in TV money between the ACC and the SEC really show up. It will be hard to poach a coach from the SEC, just because of the $$$ involved. We already had to step up in that regard, just to get Coach Eason in what amounted to a lateral transfer for very little extra money.
Stacy Searels, at Georgia, previously at UNC, makes $705,000. Would he really leave Georgia, and the SEC, now that he has gotten there, for Clemson?
In the BIG, George Barnett is making $600,000 at Iowa, and has over 20 years experience. Justin Frye is making $1,000,000 at Ohio State. Sherrone Moore is the Offensive Coordinator AND O-Line coach for Michigan. He makes $1.150,000, and his next stop is probably Head Coach, maybe even AT Michigan.
A'Lique Terry is a relatively young coach for the O-Line at Oregon. He makes base $450,000, but has some strong ties to Oregon, calling this his "dream job". He could be a possibility. At Washington, Scott Huff makes $550,000.
In the Big 12, Okie State's Charlie Dickey makes $600,000. Texas Kyle Flood makes $1.250,000, so I think you can safely count him out. At Oklahoma, Bill Bedenbaugh makes $820,000. I would also count him out.
Thomas Austin was making $400,000, by comparison. For a "splash" hire, I would expect we shell out at least double that.

I think it will be Eric Wolford from Bama. We will pay him 1 million. He can coach and recruit. He would be a great hire.

He realized the mistake he made bringing in Petrino and is looking for any port in the storm that will let him evacuate Fayettenam. They’re turning that place into the real life Ozark from Netflix. I’m guessing their next hire will be Marty Byrde as AD.
