Sloan Street tap room. He was the only bouncer that I have ever seen break up a fight by just "appearing."

With a chiseled body like that, Chester had to be doing some serious work.

David, I don't think that you can do too many Chester McGlockton stories.
Thanks for this one!

Thanks for the stories ... Do I remember right in Tampa that McGlockton was kicked out in the 1st qtr of 1992 bowl game vs. California right before we had the #### kicked out of us? That game hurt. I had to cut back on smack talking to bowl opponents after Ford left.
Those last teams prior to Ford's departure were tough as nails. Hatfield could not handle the tough guys like McGlockton the way Ford could. I would put Fridge, Michael Dean, McGlockton and Jeff Bryant at or above current level of Clemson DL, and that's saying something as this current crop is great!

My Chester Story

So it isn't really my story. It's my late friend Clif's story. Clif Collins was one of my best friends from Clemson and he became a grad student professor of English. Chester was in his class. Chester would show up, wait 15 minutes or so, and leave early. Clif, God bless his maybe 5'4" and 165 pounds, meets Chester at the door one day and says next time you leave early, don't come back, I'm going to fail you. Chester leaves early next class. Clif calls the academic advisor and says you need to relocate Chester or he's going to fail my class. Next class, Chester shows up and stays the whole class. He walks up to Clif afterwards laughing. Clif says what's up. Chester's says he got called to Danny Ford's office. Danny doesn't say a word. Picks up the phone, makes a call and hands the phone to Chester, saying tell your mom what's going on in your English class. Chester never leaves early again.

I remember watching Chester in high school. Two former UNC lineman who were masonry contractors in eastern NC took me to see him. The heels were recruiting him hard promising him that he could play outside linebacker like LT. He was playing DE and TE in that game and was dominant. He took the ball out of the QB's hand and ran it back for a touchdown while high stepping the last 20 yards into the endzone shaking the ball at the RB chasing him.
At the North Carolina high school allstar game he only played a few plays at Left DE in the 1st quarter. He was doubled team and had a third lineman cutblock him. The next play he demolished the line and tackled the RB and blocking FB for a 5 yard loss. Three guys had to be helped off the field. The West team ran away from him on the next play and he ran over the DT, LB(Ashley Shephard) and the RB. All three of those players including his future teammate Shephard, had to be helped off the field.
They removed him from the game. He was a monster.
