I knew that before we stomped a greasy spot out of Bama.

I predicted a 3 score game and specified that it would feel more like 5. That team was THE GOAT!
I was so sick of ESPiN's yearly claim that 'This Bama team is the best college team ever.' It might have been Bama's best team ever but it looked like a high school team playing in the superbowl.

That team was loaded with stars that has also transferred into stars in the NFL, so there's not much more that can be said about that championship team other than, it was one of the best ever in Clemson FB history, even better than the Danny Ford 1982 team....

The LSU team that next year by the end of the year was pretty good too. That match up would have been fun to watch.

In the 3rd quarter that LSU game was still a game, and the momentum could've taken a different turn if Nolan Turner doesn't drop the pick 6. Our 2018 defense would've won us the LSU game.

Don't forget that very ticky tack offensive pass interference call on Tee on what would have been a long TD reception.

need more
Skalski targeting -> Venables going in at LB -> Venables locking up and getting trucked by the RB on the next play
without this, LSU loses the game . that truck and following TD shifted momentum

Definitely. That LSU team might have been the best team ever, but who knows. History has shown that Clemson team with those guys would have been a nice battle. Sugar Ray Leoanrd vs Marvin Hagler. Hagler vs Hearns. It would have been great to have seen.

The game that was never played. I am talking about the team that torched Bama vs that LSU team that we lost to. The same team that Trevor is talking about.

That's where the championship starts and ends in my opinion. When you're defense no longer has to worry about run support b/c those 4 players on the def. line consistently gets elite level push and gap integrity, the that remaining back 7 have way more freedom to do their thing. Thats how UGA has been so dominant the past two years as well. Their defensive lines carry the brunt of the responsibility which allows the other guys to tee off. We saw the following year after we lost those dudes how much harder it was to operate with about the same offense. We were good but we knew we weren't going to hang with LSU. Would have loved to see our line, the year prior, match up against Burrow. He would've bit the dust just like Tua did.

Historic game. 44-16. And Dexter Lawrence had to sit out.

Clemson goes 15-0 and beat what was being called the greatest team of all time. Destroyed Alabama. Definitely one of the greatest teams ever.

I know we put the pride on the D for that year....but that OL doesn't get talked about enough and was also one of the big reasons once TL settled in that we just destroyed everyone to the CFP Natty.

Sobering part of that is you can’t really look around this team and pick out guys that are on the 2018 level. Yeah we are better at LB but that’s about it.
WR not even remotely close. QB. Cade is more on TB level DL. We are still good but just not on that 2018 level DB. 2018 was better RB. Not really close. TE was generational Oline was never elite but they worked well as a unit and weren’t a liability. We will see how 2023 unfolds TE. 2023 is better. JB is going to show out this year

After the first quarter I was amazed at how our OL was opening up plays for our offense. By the fourth quarter our OL was simply dominating the los. Likewise, I was loving every minute of it.

I remember pondering getting plane tickets and doing the West Coast short turn around on flights. But the game tickets were still stupid expensive until about 24 hours before kick-off. The they started dropping like a rock, Still a regret not going to that game.

I paid $4,200 for two good seats in Tampa and “only” $1,400 for two in San Fran. My two in 1982 in Miami were a whopping $100. No regrets on any of them.

If Bama had won 44-16 they would undoubtedly be considered the greatest team of all time. However, despite coming into the game with virtually identical credentials, when we won we became just another good, but not all time great, team. Wonder why that might be?

Some dude on the college football subreddit /r/cfb is doing an analysis of the top 131 teams of the last 40 years. Clemson came in at #10 overall (remember, last 40 years, so doesn't include our 1981 natty). One interesting fact though--and I'm not sure what math is using to come up with his yearly composite score associated with a team--but currently our 2018 team is ranked #1 overall (even above 2019 LSU, 2022 UGA, and 2013 FSU) though there are still two team analyses left to be revealed (Ohio State and Alabama). Still, it's interesting to me that this guy's analysis reinforces just how special that 2018 team was.
