In an attempt to avoid riling up Keller and any others who enjoy the basketball status quo....
what in the world are we doing?
It's the same routine, year in and year out. Strong start to the year, lay an egg in conference play, and find ourselves hosting an NIT game that we ultimately lose.
Look, I want Brownell to succeed. I've wanted it for over a decade now. But if Clemson prides itself as a school working toward athletic excellence...when will we admit Brownell ain't it?
Tommy Bowden could still be having moderate success as our football coach. I'd bet if he were still around we'd win 7-8 games annually and boast a trophy case full of trophies from mid-tier bowl wins.
But mediocrity in football wasn't gonna cut it. And it's time we had the same mindset toward basketball.
We've got a legit team this year. Maybe Brownell's best. And of course we'll lose games. Next to no one makes it through a basketball season unscathed.
But we've GOT to get past the mentality of moral victories. A "close loss" to Duke and UVa is still a loss.
I'm hopeful we run off a winning streak and get into the NCAA tourney. I'm sure Brad Brownell is a decent enough human being. So is Tommy Bowden. So is Jack Leggett.
But folks, the time for change is coming. It's really as simple as this: make the dance or pack it up and leave.
Good idea to try and get a jump. But somehow I think there will be plenty available this time. Even the most die hard cbb fans can see the truth. I doubt there will be 500 people at our first nit game this year.
