Ohio State fails again

#1 Ohio State men's tennis, who was 27-1 going into the tournament just lost in the final four to TCU 4-2 after a huge choke from their #6 player.

This happens to Ohio State men's tennis every season. Always top 4 and have still never won the national title. Like Gonzaga basketball or Oklahoma football in the playoff era.

Never gonna complain about seeing Buckeye pain

I think it was a local Columbus kid who faltered. I thought it was one I had seen play in HS but it was someone else

painful. Ohio State actually does things the right way in tennis. They recruit local, usually get top guys from northern US states and Coach Tucker really knows how to maximize their talent.

In the NCAAs they just struggle in the outdoor heat when they are used to playing indoor most of the year. And their style of play is usually big hitting indoor tennis which can be more neutralized on the outdoor courts.

slicker surfaces, isolated from the elements and having no wind indoors helps bit hitters really tee off on the ball and hit through the court. Helps big servers and strong hitters.


Outdoor courts get grittier over time from the elements. The ball catches more and slows the pace down some. Plus dealing with wind, usually helps defensive players get to more balls and doesn't allow big hitters to hit as many winners.

That's with every court being hard court to. Clay courts are the slowest out of all.

thanks very helpful. I should say almost all of my tennis experience is outdoor.

My grandson graduated HS last year. He played golf and tennis in high school. Golf L and Tennis R. His 2 handed backhand was pretty good due to the golf

and double faulted twice in a row at 30-30 to give TCU guy the break. Then lost the next two game rather tamely to lose the set 7-5 and give the clinch to TCU
