I know he was redshirting this year. Which is why we didn’t see him play much.

Unfortunately, our backup QB has no real game time experience which could be tragic if needed.

I guess we’ll find out at the spring game if CV improved at all.

Honest question but if the goal is to be in the championship hunt, why does a backup QB matter? Didn't the playoff committee just say that a starting QB going out for an undefeated ACC team will be your demise?
Unless you have someone on the bench who is equal to or better than your starter and can light it up, then you are screwed. Oh and those proven QBs who are just as good as your starter usually aren't coming to schools to sit the bench

.......if it happens to one of their SEC darlings. Then they'll act like they was never against it when it involved Florida State.

Had either of FSU's backups had a pulse in any game they played maybe it would have been different.

With Bama, Tyler Buchner (ND transfer) was the starting QB. Buchner shat the bed. Enter Milroe. Hello CFP.
All that Milroe had accomplished was to go undefeated.
Oh, that’s right …FSU’s backup QB’s also went undefeated.

When Bama upset the applecart by beating UGa...

the CFP didn't want to put itself in a position of having to decide between Bama and Texas (there was NO WAY the CFP wasn't going to take the SEC champion and they couldn't take the SEC champion in this case without also taking Texas), so they made FSU, an undefeated conference champion, and the whole inured QB BS the scapegoat. It's really just that simple.
If Georgia beats Bama, the final four would have been Georgia, Michigan, Washington and FSU.

I'm less concerned about what the committee might think and more concerned about whether or not we can win games with our backup QBs if Cade goes down.

Other than the logical reason (should the starter get hurt) the reason to have a good back up is that it forces internal competition for the job. They will push one another to be better. Cade can relax, he's got the job. He doesn't have to compete for it.

CV was brought in with an immediate redshirt year in mind. He knew that was going to happen. Word has it that he did not get into the 4 games because he has progressed very little since high school and is not ready to see the field. 2024 is a HUGE year for this kid in his development, or lack thereof.

The scoop is he needed more development than originally anticipated. Not to say he will not be lights out at some point, but like Cade has some work ahead of him. I would not be surprised to see Batson in the mix if we have to go with a backup option next year.

A backup QB??? Clemson needs a QB period. Anyone who thinks any of the QB's currently on the roster can lead Clemson to a CFB championship needs to be tested for hallucinogenic drugs. After the QB play, as well as all the offensive play this season, all offensive positions should be up for grabs.
