I want an honest opinion from all TNetters

How many of you honestly and truthfully feel that Cole comes out and has the game of his career and leads us to a victory on Saturday? I can honestly say i feel like this will happen...i believe that with a month off to prepare he has regained his confidence. The first series on offense is absolutely HUGE though...a couple of quick completions (i.e. screen, slant) would be very helpful. I may be wrong but i just have this feeling that Saturday is going to be his time to shine....want some honest opinions here so let me hear them....and as always....Go Tigers!!!!

I believe Cole will play his heart out for the team and Clemson university. He works harder and longer than any tigernet poster in this thread. If we win by ONE point, I don't care if he completes a single pass. Just win. Irks me with these "no, he isn't good" comments. Lame.

"Irks me with these "no he isn't good" comments. Lame"
What are people supposed to say. That he is a great qb. That would make everyone on tnet sound even dumber than u for making that comment. People can believe in Cole and want him to have a great last game and still appreciate his hard work at clemson, and that still won't make him any where near a good qb. He is horrible and anyone who thinks he will all of the sudden have the game of his life against a team that without some major injuries would probably be in the playoffs is just dilusional. That opinion is based off facts that I have seen all year, that he can't read a defense, stares down receivers, has no accuracy, and makes horrible decisions. No way this guy leads anyone to victory against good competition. Oklahoma isn't wake forest or Syracuse.

Everyone knows he isn't a great QB. Average at best. However, those posts that are the simple one liners "no, he is a terrible QB" are lame. I just think he deserves a little more than that.

So Louisville wasn't good competition? Ok. BC beat the real USC. We went to BC and won there. Guess they weren't good competition. Oklahoma is a test more for our defense than offense. How are they gonna do. If we lose, the ONLY player to get the blame will probably be Stoudt. If we win, the defense will get the credit.

has struggled this year, but for someone to come on here and outright slam the guy is ludicrous. i have seen threads stating that he isn't even a d-1 caliber qb., although outta h.s.,he was offered by az.state, cincy, usf, and others, as the 28th rated qb coming out of h.s. ( he did break a lot of brady quinn's records at his h.s.). i think people forget that this is the first yr. he has started. he had gotten his previous collegiate experience during mop-up time (or versus lower level teams) and against most of their 2nd and third units. we all wish we had a healthy dw, but we don't. we should all just get behind our guys and support whomever the coaches run out on the playing field.

That's what I was trying to say. No one is saying he is Peyton Manning. We ALL want him to have the best game of his career against Okie Dokie. I just hate seeing the "Cole is terrible, awful" etc. posts. It's "cootish".

and quit on Stoudt are the same ones that would quit on a team. The team and fans need to encourage him rather than bash him and if the coaches and teammates certainly have to do their share to help make him successful. We really have no other options and this game should be won on lost as a team - just like BC, Syracuse, Louisville and WF.

Are u trying to say that Clemson won the Louisville game because of Cole? He did everything he could do to try to lose that game. He should have thrown at least 4 ints. (3 were dropped). He cost us points before the first half ended by being a complete moron and not throwing the ball away. Clemson won that game without any help from Cole. As far as Boston college, sure they beat USC, but that doesn't make them a good team, they are a middle tier acc team. Its not saying much beating them. I will say that was the best game he has ever played.

If OU gets into the endzone 3 times...we're in deep trouble.

Nope. Sorry. Will cheer for my Tigers...but Cole has been really, really bad. Oklahoma plays a bunch of loaded boxes and will pressure like crazy...and Cole will have to throw down the field to beat it. OK is suspect in the secondary, pretty good in their front seven.
Cole hasn't done very well in situations where he's been asked to carry the load, and we're not going to run effectively with eight in the box.
Think this one gets away from us. Hope I'm wrong.

Go back and watch the 4-game streak that he led us to wins. He wasn't great but he got the job done. I hope we win and he's the MVP. He's battled through more adversity than anybody on this team and has done us proud.

I want to think this may be the game where CS puts
Dec 25, 2014, 9:33 PM

it together like he apparently does in practice, but I'm hesitant given how they play D. We need to get it out as quick as possible, possibly by "inventing" ways to get the ball on the edge with alignment of recievers as an extension of the running game (ala Scott vs. CootU) . Only problem I see is that CS is going to have to beat them with his legs on a couple plays for the zone-option to truly have an effect on the DB's. However, so long as we sustain drives and don't go 3 and out constantly, our D is SKRONG! We are the #1 D in the country (no one will convince me we're not at least a top 5 D for any lurkers that may read this). If we can create TO's (I know that's every game), we're good enough to flip field position on D, and kick some field goals. Cole can't kill us. Pinion and Lakip have to be outstanding! Also, special teams coverage, and having a good night on any punt/kickoff returns we get a chance to return could possibly play a bigger role in this game than it usually does. Catman missed on the resnap Vs.Auburn, but made UGA, LSU, Ohio St. Lakip had his miss(es) vs. FSU and has been solid since...idk, just a thought that came into my head, espescially with our D. Our D just needs to do what it's capable of, and we can win. I'll pull for CS because he has represented CU like a gentleman, but I haven't seen him play well enough in a game to beat Oklahoma. I would love nothing more than to be wrong and have someone repost this making me look like an ___. I'll take that for a win anytime....trust me, I've done far worse as, "Taking one for the team" goes! SMH

I think he will have a very good game. IMO, his play during the year was more about he knew someone was looking over his shoulder and one little mistake and would be on the sidelines. I actually think maybe he tried too hard. In the bowl game, he will not have DW waiting to come in the game. He will not have to worry about losing the starting position for the next game. He will not get as much flack from fans because it is not a competition for starting position. He will be more relaxed and again, imo, have a good game...at least good enough to get us the win.

will have a great game.
It is possible that his injuries have hampered him more than we've been led to believe, and if so, the time off could make a huge difference. It's also possible that our O-line has healed enough so that they can play a solid game, open some holes for our RBs and give Cole time to set and throw. It's also possible that Brandon Streeter could be just what Cole needed. It's also possible that Cole has had a chance to clear his head with the time off and he may have finally gotten it together. It's also possible that Santa Claus is real and he has made Cole into a great QB as a Christmas gift to us all. There are all sorts of possibilities, and I hope at least one of them becomes a reality. As I said, however, I have no reason to expect that to be the case. Based on a pretty substantial history of playing very poorly, I think it's more likely that he will play poorly once again.
Sorry. I hope I'm wrong too.

I truly believe Cole will lead us to victory by not turning the ball over and not losing the game for us by missing easy throws when we need it. If that means it's the game of his life, then yes!

He threw 2 passes against Carolina: one for a loss and then an interception with no Clemson player in sight. I predict performance from previous results.

If Cole plays well and our Tigers win this game then I can honestly say we have a great chance of winning a Nat'l Title over the next two years. If Streeter, Elliott, and Scott can take what we have seen from Stoudt this year and turn it into a winner then these cats can coach.
Having said that, I find the above unlikely considering past results and this game being the first under new offensive coaches. Despite it being the same scheme it may take time for this new group to gel.

a good post and all. Myself, I have learned over the years that "feelings" before things actually happen haven't amounted to all that much, so I don't trust them so much. This has gone for not just sports but many other things. I've had some work out and some not work out. I've had bad feelings before big games and been totally shocked that the opposite happened, and vice versa. I've had great feelings and then see a player go down (either team) and the air go out of everyone. You just don't know with sports and especially the young who think they are infallible and immune to things - it's almost like betting on horse raising.
But I hope you are right this time

I believe we can win the game. I do not believe we win b/c of Cole's terrific play. If we win it'll be b/c he manages the game well and these new OC's feed him plays that are low risk. If we get behind late, I don't believe Cole can win it for us. Look for Scott, Williams, and our RBs to carry the load in terms of taking what should be 3-4 yard gains and turning them into game breakers.
Cole is a terrific man. I believe he bleeds Orange. He has represented the program well. I wish him all the best in the future.

One reason I think Cole looks so good vs. UGa....
Dec 26, 2014, 9:14 AM
|

...was that he had time to study and prep vs. the Dawg defense. His problems during the year came as a game plan geared for DW's skills had to be revamped.
With a month to prep, some rest for his dinged shoulder and a chance to sort things out, I have no doubt we see the Cole from the first half of the Georgia game out there against Oklahoma.

Morris lost trust in him too quickly - after first intercept against Gawja. How can a player trust himself when his coach does not? And then to diss him by giving him "only 20 plays" publicly before GT game (I know Morris thought DW would start and finish, but to make up an excuse like that was all the GT defense (coach) needed to know, was inexcusable - good timing for Chad to depart).

Get a clue, it's not Chad Morris fault that Stoudt can't...

play the position at an FBS level. Stoudt's QB ability is terrible. The way he plays the position, is a perfect example of how not to play the position. Chad Morris play calling saved us from more losses. Accept it, the former Wyoming commit doesn't have the talent to play QB at this level of college football.

Totally agree. This idiot has said that exact same thing in like 20 threads. Chad morris called plays suitable for his incompitant qb. Does he really think that other teams didn't already know stoudts 20 plays before chad said that? I mean, come on.

Okay - I think everyone - including our illustrious coaches - are well aware of Cole's weaknesses by now, and will play accordingly. For some reason, I never saw that in Chad Morris - I don't think he understood anything about Cole. Anyway, if our coaches can call plays to Cole's strengths - and he does have some - then we will be fine. If the coaches don't effin get it by now, then we will get our butts handed to us. I don't think Dabo understands how to play to Cole's strengths either. Cole can hit Scott and Williams in stride with almost perfect passes if given just a little time in the pocket. Cole does not scramble well and collapses under that pressure in many situations. Also, those check downs to Adam do NOT work. PERIOD! If they don't understand that, then we can only hope that OU is just as bad and our D is freaking awesome.
Let Cole do that 2' pass to Scott on the Jet Sweep. Hand off to Gallman, Dye, etc. Pass over the middle to our TE's (if we still have any left). Do NOT run Cole on a lot of draw plays or 3rd-and-short as we have RB's for that. Take Cole out of the formula for the win as he does not need to WIN this game - he just does not need to LOSE it for us. Hopefully the coaches can understand that. Geez. We need to write a primer. JK - we'll be fine with our coaches. They aren't as dumb as I am - I'm just brainstorming.
And where the heck is Charone Peake? Is he gonna play for us this year? Dang - I was counting on him to be one of our best and injuries have absolutely ruined this season for him.

Majority of the people on here are missing the point. They feel that Stoudt will have a big game because of the moment and the fact that he has had time to prepare, etc..
The truth is, Cole is a QB that is playing in the wrong system. He is no where near being a Spread Attack QB. Judging by all the interceptions that he has thrown, his game plan is quite simple. They have plays that are specifically designed for him to throw the ball to 1 WR with his check down options. This certainly explains why he sits in the pocket, stares down his WR, and gives his intentions away. He is not a good QB, at all and alot of you know it. He has horrible time management and some times I wonder if he is even looking at the fckkn clock, hes desperately inaccurate, and he is slow. Do I blame him? Not really, hes playing in the wrong style of offense, plain and simple.

It's just the opposite mist people do not expect a great game out if Stoudt. I fir one don't think he is TERRIBLE which is what I was commenting on. I don't think Mirris deviated the game plan regardless of who was under center. For DW, it works perfectly. For CS, like you said, the play calling needs to be altered. Defenses okay us differently based on who is at QB. They blitz the crap out if Stoudt cause they know he won't kill them with running out of it or getting rid if the ball quickly. I expect Okie to do the same thing. Therefore, the staff needs to plan for that. Our OL did a great job against the cluckers. Hopefully they feed off that, and Gsllman/Dye exploit it. In the end, we all want a Clemson victory. Hate to see those that give us zero chance with Stoudt. There are 90+ other players on that team that might have their say as well.

Problem is... No one wants to be the bad guy. No one wants to get bashed. And most people want to be optimistic. With no one else to turn to, it's very important to have Cole's confidence at a high level. Especially the coaches. But that doesn't mean he's going play well, by hoping. Nothing, nothing suggest he will play well. Heck, I am ruting for him- Though some you would disagree. But I'm not going look through orange colored glasses either. Hope I am wrong... but I don't see it.
This game reminds me a lot of the GA game earlier this year.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed... I mean the law of averages say that he is due to light someone up. I just hope it's the Sooners on Monday night!

just "play our game." We did a good job of that against the chickens, but OU ain't the chickens.
http://espn.go.com/ncf/preview?id=400610208
Stoudt saw action in every game, but in eight contests against bowl-bound teams he completed 56.6 percent of passes for 648 yards with zero touchdowns and six interceptions.
Only one of the Tigers' past eight opponents has scored more than 20 points. The Sooners were held under 30 only once all season.
Knight will return from a three-game absence after injuring his neck against Baylor on Nov. 8. He has an 11-3 record as a starter and earned MVP honors in last season's Sugar Bowl, passing for 348 yards and four touchdowns in a 45-31 win over Alabama.
Oklahoma has been vulnerable against the pass, allowing an average of 272.7 yards to rank 115th out of 125 FBS schools, but has the advantage of facing an unreliable quarterback.
The Tigers could have trouble moving the ball on the ground considering Oklahoma is 10th against the run at 109.6 yards per game

Honestly? I don't care how well he prepares or who coaches him. He does not have it between his ears to make the right decisions. Our offense will only score if we can run the ball and take pressure off Stoudt throwing it. I also feel the defense will have to force at least 3 turnovers and score off one of them. Hope I am wrong, but I have seen this old song and dance all year with Stoudt.

I honestly think he is one of the most accurate passers

that I've ever seen. I also think that there are 2 types of people when handling stress/ pressure: One eagerly welcomes it and the other freezes up or loses confidence and panics. Fight or flight thing. Cole seems to respond negatively whereas, as we all have seen, Deshaun flourishes tremendously. If Cole could just view it from this perspective of an opportunity for his talent he'd be crazynuts good. Same with Tajh. Tajh is his worst enemy.

etc when he is just playing for gametime. What was his percentage last yr? 90% or so I believe. Mentally he panics under live fire. Very much so. I could be thinking of Kelly last yr. What do I know lol

No, we will win the way we won the other games with Stoudt..

starting, with Defense and being judicious in the type of pass plays we call. Stoudt can't throw in the middle of the field and Stoudt can't throw down the field. Need to stick to the screens and 7-15 yard sideline routes. Slants would be the worst play to call with Stoudt, as these are in the middle of the field. Passing in the middle of the field is Stoudt's biggest weakness.

Maybe he should get stoned before the game, so he can relax under the pressure

Perhaps spike his Gatorade. Then maybe he'll have the game of his life. Realistically, he should take snaps and hand it to the tigers running by him. 3, 9, 13, and 7 should take care of the rest.
