Thoughts on Spiers punting

Short kicks are purposeful ?? Of course he is not needed very much at all which is great.
His kicks lack height and yardage, either he has a very weak leg or these 35-40 yard punts are for punt coverage. Outkick the coverage is where problems can happen.

I refuse to believe that no less than half of the team can out punt him.

He’s not a punter. He’s a booter

Calling him a punter is offensive to actual punters.
His booting is an abomination and an embarrassment.
Our FG kicker is equally as bad in my opinion. I hold my breath on extra points. He almost misses extra points to the right all the time. And let’s not even talk about the FG miss today. It didn’t look like that bad of a hold by Swinney. Just a complete shank.
Flame away, but I’d hate to lose out on another natty due to special teams like in 2015.
At least we don’t have to hold our breath when we kickoff anymore.

Yeah that’s why he said almost.

We either don't get good kickers or don't develop what we get. The kicking game needs some major work.

Our Net Punting Average is 39.42 Yards

We are in the upper third in net punting in FBS.
That yardage is to some extent reduced because we have a good offense and don't punt from deep inside our own territory frequently.

What I know is the ONE time he needed to
Nov 2, 2019, 8:35 PM
|
|
Step up...he did. Remember his first punt in the Natty, last January? He flipped the field when it looked for all the world like Bama would have excellent field position.
So...for those lame-minded, pretend Tiger fans...remember to give credit when it's due, while you bash away on your keyboard. Apparently anonymity instills perfection in some...

That is the one time he actually had a good kick when it mattered. Most other times are suboptimal. The year before against Bama he did not flip the field. Stuff like that matters.

I recall he had an excellent punt against Scar. Dabo praised him for it. I think it was downed inside the ten, maybe 5.

Watched the punters in warmups. Unfortunately, Spiers is our best option. Swanson is supposed to be a good punter but Spiers consistently outkicked him. Swanson needs to put some work in the weight room as well.
